Jungle of orchard

The biggest floodplain orchard of Europe can be found in Szatmár county, Hungary. It is so harmoniously integrated with the magical natural environment of upper Tisza river area as if it were created. Strolling among the forgotten types of fruit trees which are typical in this area we understand a little how our ancestors lived in harmony with nature. One of the biggest S-shaped riverbend which remained after the river control of upper Tisza can be found near to Kisar village. The floodplain orchard which is surrounded by the huge riverbend is called Uszturó by the residents. This area is owned by 30 farmers but the borders are not marked by fences. The atmosphere of Uszturó is similar to a parkland and in some places even to a paradise garden owing to the combination of variety of fruit trees and forest tree species. Bertalan Murzsa who is known as "the hermit of the zanders' bank" is retired and spends most of his time at Tisza river. His nick name is Old Greyhound.
